Steve was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and has played in every corner of the State; Barrow to Nome, Prince Rupert to Unalaska. He even traveled to a gig one time by dog sled where the only heat was a wood burning stove... there were many times he traveled by snow-machine. He's panned for gold and ran from moose - it's little wonder he became a musician.
Steve started playing trumpet at age 10 and started playing musicals for money at 14.
He loved the energy of the dancers and the soul (groove) that the dance music writers were into "A good melody can jumpstart a society". Steve has played in numerous bands throughout his teens and 20's then set sail for a career on the cruise ships in 30's. Later he moved to Bothell Washington but now lives in Monroe, Washington.
Steve has played with some great names in the business. To mention but a few: Cab Caolloway, Rosemary Clooney, Diane Reeves, J.J. Johnson, Mike Vax, Mickey Dolenz (The Monkees), Red Buttons, Jack Jones, Peter Noone, Lenny Welch, Rich Little, Shirley Jones and many, many more!!
Steve has won Downbeat Awards in flugelhorn and Best Big Band in ’91. He plays in Seattle bands when ever called and is a regular player in three, including the
Fairly Honest Jazz Band.
